MLS (ASCP) B.A. (Journalism) writes clever and interesting hubs on Native Americans, Dream Catchers, Aztec and Mayan culture, photography, Medical Laboratory Science, Blood Banking, and whatever else catches her eye.She was born and raised in the great state of Texas, but has also lived in Mexico and Hawaii.

Lela became an MLT in 1976, then a fully licensed and certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS ASCP) in the 1990s. She has over 30 years experience as a med tech (lab tech).

She earned a B.A. degree in Journalism from Sam Houston University in Huntsville, TX. She has been writing for the online world for years.

Coordinated the conversion of the LIS at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center Laboratory from a legacy system to Hospital Management System. Continuing to update and support the data base for this system. Supported the implementation of CPRMC’s blood bank by updating the computer system and the procedure manuals. Implemented Ortho’s gel technology for Blood Bank. Maintained and updated all blood bank equipment and SOPs for inspection purposes.

Supported implementations of Cerner MIllennium PathNet Laboratory Information Systems at University Medical Center, Lubbock, TX, ARUP, Colorado Springs, and other sites as a senior analyst with Cerner Corporation.

Planned, developed and installed the blood bank data base for Cerner and Meditech at St. David's Medical Center

Project leader, communications process improvement team.

Reduced lost revenues by redesigning and updating the manual billing system to an automated system.

Completed re-organization of lab specimen delivery system, reduced unnecessary telephone calls, improved efficiency.
